AGLIFF Sneak Peeks

Finally got some summaries done
on a few selected films
for the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival.

All three are terrific.
Er, uh, the films, not the summaries.
A touching documentary about multi-racial adoption in post-Apartheid Africa.
Yep, that about explains it.
and

These are just a few of the
top selections
coming in September
for the 2011

Learning To See

I am learning to see.
I don't know why it is,
but everything enters me more deeply
and doesn't stop where it always used to end.
I have an interior that I never knew of...

Self Expression

“If love is an action,
how do you express self-love?
Self-love starts with having the courage to be who you are,
regardless of what others might think.
It is about having the courage to live your dreams,
to do what makes you happy in life,
so that one day you won't wake up saying,
‘I wish I had.’
Self-love is about self-care,
making your health a priority.
Self-love is revealed in your willingness
to stay focused on the things
you say are important.
It's about having the courage
to set boundaries and protect them.”

The Mask

The mask that we must all be concerned about
is the one that isn’t painted on with makeup:
the one that you can’t see with your eyes,
the one that human beings
have gotten accustomed to wearing unconsciously.
Unlike its makeup counterpart,
this one can be put on in 10 seconds,
but it takes years of effort to get rid of it.
This type of mask penetrates the soul,
and all the towels in the world
are not enough to get rid of it.”

Difficulty

You do not face difficulties as punishment;
you attract them
because you are moving
to the next level
of understanding your sacred nature.

Beloved of The Universe

When you see
that you are the beloved of the universe,
then all of the energy
that you have been using
to convince the external world
of who you are
will now be yours to use
for the beauty of simply
being yourself just as you are.

Photos of Signs

Ok, it's not a sign
It's a card.
Yes it's a blurry cell phone photo.
YES.  It says "Erection Specialist"

Whu?

Give Derrick a call
if you need an
Erection Specialist.
"Quality People"
"Superior Service"

More Theatre!

 And yes, every once in awhile I do this thing called theatre!
This time it's
Ducks Vs. Squirrels, The Battle For The Park.
produced by the Pollyanna Children's Theatre.
A rare treat to enjoy a short play
in the cool air conditioned
Rollins Theatre at
The Long Center.
Bring your kids!
They'll have a blast,
and so will you.
You'll love it!
Promise.

Find out what happens on "The Road of Squealing Danger!"
Watch as Chunk enjoys her new found nuts (no, it really IS a children's show!)
Will Chunk and Red survive their furst - no pun intended - mission?

The Ducks do not understand the Squirrels
and the Squirrels are terrified of the Ducks…
This new play
examines why neighbors
often can not get along
when the problem
is only found in their minds.

Next...

There is not any present moment

that is unconnected with some future one.

The life of every man is a continued chain of incidents,

each link of which hangs upon the former.

The transition from cause to effect,

from event to event,

is often carried on by secret steps,

which our foresight cannot divine,

and our sagacity is unable to trace.

Atlantis

I realized today
as I unexpectedly cried
listening to the
final launch
that I was a child of
the space generation,
socialized,
whether I knew it or not,
by the idea
that flying to the moon
meant we could do anything.

9000 people will lose their jobs.
Some have spent entire
careers in the space program.
Another 2000 ancillary jobs in the area
will be lost as well.

It was sad,
bittersweet.
I don't want it to end.
Why can't we just do something,
for the sheer sake of being able to do it?

The Truth Is Out There.

Control

Do you see it as
your duty in life
to make sure
that all goes the way
you think it 'should'?

That would be
an inaccurate assessment
of your soul's
grander purpose.

Learning...

To blame the other players in our drama
for helping to teach us what we need to learn
is the height of foolishness.

Rebellious Independence Day Question

I am so grateful for the freedom
we experience
as Americans.
But today, I also
reflect on these two quotes
and how much personal freedom
I do or don't trade
at the expense of an external sense of security
that is transient, illusory, and temporary.

Freedom is
a creation of the heart.
At the personal level
it is a powerful recognition
of an ability to
care lovingly
for myself
without fear of oppression
(and sometimes in the face of judgment)
from others.

Happy 4th.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Those who desire
to give up freedom
in order to gain security
will not have,
nor do they deserve,
either one.
~Benjamin Franklin
We happily give up our freedom...
...in exchange for having someone else
take responsibility for telling us
what to do next.
How much are you giving up?
~Seth Godin
More Photos of Signs
Every once in awhile
I find another sign
to add to my collection.
Here's one.
Still haven't gotten a shot
of the Pho King Restaurant
or the PISD. (Pflugerville Independent School District.)
Black And White Expo
The Expo is up.
Over 200 entries,
I learned a lot using
the very interesting
process by which our winners
were picked.
There is some
gorgeous work
